Silverdale School is set to expand the number of students it can admit after approval was given for its plans for a new Portakabin building adjacent to the current school building.
The school has been working with Sheffield Local Authority to address the ongoing and future shortage of secondary school places in the south west of the City. The decision to grant approval for the build will enable Silverdale to increase its pupil allocation number (PAN) in Years 7-11 and at sixth form. The Year 7 PAN will increase from 180 to 240, starting in September 2023.
In addition, the school will be able to accommodate 30 students with special educational needs (SEN) in its Sixth Form, helping to meet a city-wide need to expand post-16 provision for students with SEN.
The school and its students will benefit from a new additional building that compliments the existing site, providing learning spaces. Silverdale School is working with Sheffield City Council, Gate and Bar and Portakabin to complete the project.
This is a really exciting development for Silverdale School. The approval of our plans to accommodate more students here at Silverdale is the culmination of the efforts of a wide team of partners. We are grateful to them all for helping us to realise the plans that will help to alleviate the current shortage of secondary school places in this area. We are keen to start work as soon as possible – and we are really looking forward to welcoming our new cohort of 240 Year 7 students to Silverdale in September 2023.
