You can hire a modular building from Portakabin, buy a newly manufactured building or buy a pre-owned refurbished building. Each procurement route offers a different balance of flexibility, ownership and upfront investment, so the right option depends on your project requirements, budget and timescale.

  1. Which procurement option is right for you?

    1. Hiring your building

Hiring gives you flexibility without major capital investment and can suit temporary, project-based or changing space requirements. Buildings can be hired for as long as you need them, with support available throughout the hire period. Find out how to hire a building.

    2. Buying a new building

Buying a newly manufactured building can suit long-term requirements where ownership and greater control over the building specification are priorities. New Portakabin modular buildings also come with a 30-year structural warranty. Find out how to buy a building.

    3. Buying a refurbished building

Buying refurbished can provide a cost-effective option where a pre-owned building meets your project requirements. Refurbished buildings reuse existing modules, are available from stock and come with a 10-year structural warranty. Find out how to buy a refurbished building.

  2. Public sector procurement through frameworks

For public sector organisations, procurement frameworks can provide a straightforward and compliant route to a modular building, with suppliers already assessed before appointment. Portakabin is available through a range of public sector frameworks covering sectors including education and healthcare, helping organisations reduce the time and complexity involved in procurement. Explore public sector procurement frameworks.

We are very pleased with the building, the extension and the appearance. Portakabin was sufficiently flexible to allow us to purchase and extend our interim building to convert for permanent use.

FAQs

Can I extend or adapt my modular building later?

Yes. Modular buildings can be adapted as requirements change. Alterations can be made during a hire period in consultation with Portakabin, while purchased buildings can be refurbished or reconfigured for a new layout or use.

What quality can I expect from a refurbished modular building?

Refurbished modular buildings reuse robust steel frames from previous Portakabin structures and are refitted to meet current building regulations. They also come with a 3-year product warranty and a 10-year structural warranty, giving you reassurance when choosing a pre-owned building.

What happens when my hire agreement ends?

You can extend your hire if you still need the building. If it is no longer required, let us know and we will arrange collection and removal from your site. Our procurement and costs FAQs cover hire extensions and end-of-hire arrangements in more detail.
