Modular construction specialist Portakabin has been awarded the ‘Supplier of the Year’ award at Learning Places Scotland on Tuesday 14 November in Glasgow.
The event, which is held on an annual basis, focuses on funding, design, build, maintenance and management of early years, schools, colleges and universities. Featuring a two-day conference, an exhibition and an awards ceremony, Learning Places Scotland celebrates excellence across the education sector.
This year, there were thirteen categories that recognised consultants, contractors, architects, clients and projects, as well as progress in innovation and sustainability.
Awarded for their partnership with West Lothian Council, Portakabin provided additional pupil capacity at Winchburgh and Calderwood Primary School and latterly supplied emergency teaching space at St Kentigern’s High School. Portakabin provided approximately 3,500m2 of bespoke learning space to support more than 1,200 pupils across three separate schools.
With quality and innovation at the forefront of this project, Portakabin delivered classrooms, music rooms and CDT labs, as well as a dining hall, changing rooms and toilet facilities. In addition, Portakabin provided a full turnkey solution including groundworks, data connectivity, fire/intruder alarms, CCTV, access control and compliant steps and ramps.
The council contacted Portakabin regarding an emergency teaching space at St Kentigern’s and the Portakabin team were on site the same day to assist. As Phase One was being delivered Portakabin was already working in collaboration with the client to create a longer-term bespoke offering.
Laura Cameron, Capital Programme & Project Principal for West Lothian Council said ”We cannot recommend Portakabin enough, they have truly been remarkable and we look forward to continuing the working relationship with them going forward"
