  1. Why did Salford City Academy require purpose-built school facilities?

Salford City Academy, part of the United Learning Trust, is a co-educational secondary school in Salford that focuses on providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for its pupils. The school is dedicated to helping each student to reach their full potential, with an ethos centred around respect, creativity and determination.

Earlier this year, the school identified the urgent need for additional space to accommodate 50 students for the new academic year. With limited space and growing demand, they needed a modular school building that would best support both their teaching and student experience.

  2. What education facilities were required?

Salford City Academy turned to Portakabin to deliver a modern and purpose-built learning environment to allow their pupils to continue their learning development and personal growth. Our own ethos of commitment, innovation and teamwork closely aligned with the school’s values, which formed the foundation of a successful and collaborative partnership.

This involved the design, manufacturing and installation of modular classrooms, a reception area, an intervention room, a store cupboard and toilets. Crucially, the building had to be delivered within just 12 weeks over the summer holiday period, in preparation for the beginning of the new academic year.

From the outset, Portakabin took a proactive and detail-driven approach that impressed the School Construction Advisor (SCA) and allowed the client to have full confidence in our ability to deliver an efficient and inspiring learning space.

  3. Portakabin provided a high-quality solution with minimal disruption

Delivered seamlessly within the 12-week timeframe, the new alternate provision building provides Salford City Academy with a transformative space. Designed to provide a modern and comfortable environment, the layout includes a welcoming reception area to register students, a dedicated intervention room for one-to-one support and reflection, in addition to modular classrooms and accessible toilet facilities.

Portakabin managed every stage of the project with precision and speed, from the groundworks and building control applications, to coordination with the local authority to ensure compliance with all regulations.

By refurbishing and repurposing existing modular school building modules, the project provides an environmentally conscious solution that supports our sustainability goals.

The building’s wood-effect cladding is not only aesthetically appealing, but it also offers additional insulation to improve energy efficiency. Air conditioning was also installed throughout the facilities to ensure year-round comfort. Each detail of the alternate provision project was meticulously considered to create a professional and practical environment

Without causing any disruption, the students have been able to return to a brand-new modular school building where they can learn, reflect and grow. Whilst staff are now equipped with a dedicated learning environment to support their pupils’ personal and academic progress.

The result is a high-quality alternate provision facility that embodies the school’s values, allowing them to empower their students to reach their full potential.
