  1. How we helped

John Sisk & Son Ltd. were contracted to work on the expansion of a large sports stadium and the development of a hotel and commercial space in Manchester. For this, they required a high-quality site accommodation solution providing office space, welfare facilities, and catering areas for a third-party caterer while meeting strict HSE standards and practices as well as providing a comfortable working environment for site operatives and office teams.

Due to limited footprint available for the main site accommodation building collaboration between the Portakabin and SISK design and engineering teams, was essential to ensure a 5-storey option could be installed in a safe manner. Additionally, logistical constraints around the busy stadium meant that lifting and deliveries had to be carefully planned to avoid disruption.

Due to a longstanding PSA agreement with Portakabin, SISK only trusted them to successfully deliver its first-ever five-storey site accommodation building, marking a significant milestone in the capability of Portakabin to provide more advanced, multi-storey solutions. Requiring almost 80 site accommodation modules, the accommodation provided high-quality office space, meeting rooms, a canteen with catering facilities, welfare areas, emergency lighting, and a dedicated prayer room.

The innovative design featured a fifth-level meeting room with full-length windows and a balcony to be used to view the progress of the work on site. Overcoming structural and logistical challenges, this achievement demonstrates how Portakabin has the ability to deliver complex, large-scale site accommodation for future landmark projects.

The North Stand Project is very complex, as such we looked at a lot of different ways to simplify the build during pre-construction phase. Engaging Portakabin was one the ways we managed to simplify, what could have been a very difficult part of the logistic plan. The way John and the Portakabin team have managed the design, costs, delivery, installation, and maintenance of the accommodation helped us to better plan the construction programme, which in turn has aided the successful delivery of the Project.
