The Requirements
Archbishop Holgate’s School required a three-storey maths and resource centre and a separate gym facility to accommodate a new intake of students. The new modular building, which will replace an outdated traditionally constructed building, would be the first seen at the end of the school driveway so a standout design was required. Access needed to be split to ensure a secure location for learning. Working on a tight site footprint, Portakabin liaised closely with the school to ensure pupils could safely pass by to access other classes.

The Solution
The 1463m² three-storey building was configured with split access for maths and the resource centre, with no through-way between the two. Built on a sloping site, enabling works looked at the level access straight away. A standout design and high-quality internal fit-out were of high importance so colour schemes and external finishing were carefully considered to ensure the building made a statement yet also blended with the current estate. Additional facilities include a separate two-storey gym with changing rooms and office space on the ground floor.
Part of the project where you had to get contractors in the middle of the pandemic to be on site and on time was particularly testing for Portakabin, but everything was done on time to specification so that is some achievement.
