As a previous winner of the Sparks Apprentice of the year in 2010, Scott Wigmore, Electrician at Portakabin, used his volunteer day to return to the Sparks event, share his knowledge, and help find this year’s South West Sparks Learner of the year.

Eighteen students and apprentices came together to compete for the title. Competitors had 5.5 hours to complete a practical challenge. Following the completion of the challenge, Scott and the main judge marked each competitor against a set criteria, crowning a winner to go through to the next stage.

Following regional Sparks challenges held across the country, a total of six regional winners were then entered into the national competition to compete for ‘Ultimate Sparks Learner of the year’.

Scott was incredibly proud to be able to share his knowledge and experience with a generation of new electricians.

At Portakabin, each employee has one paid volunteering day available each year. Colleagues are encouraged to take part in a variety of opportunities and team challenges, or like Scott, able to follow their own inspiration and do something that is important to them.
