We are proud to announce that Portakabin, and our manufacturing headquarters in York, has been awarded an International Safety Award by the British Safety Council for protecting its employees from the risk of injury and ill health at work.

We are one of 428 organisations to win a Merit in the International Safety Awards 2026, in recognition of our commitment to keeping workers and workplaces healthy and safe during the 2025 calendar year.

Now in their 68th year, the International Safety Awards recognise and celebrate organisations from around the world which have demonstrated to the satisfaction of the scheme’s independent judges their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill health during the previous calendar year. The awards also acknowledge organisations that have shown commitment to wellbeing and mental health at work.

  1. Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council, congratulated Portakabin on our success in winning the award: “Our winners have all made significant and continued efforts to protect and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone in their organisations. All the winners, and those who were shortlisted, have dedicated substantial time, resources and commitment to ensuring their work, teams and workplaces remained healthy and safe during 2025. I also thank all organisations who took time to apply for these awards, and to our panel of volunteer judges for adjudicating.

“It is our vision at the British Safety Council that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work – wherever that takes place around the world. By sharing the achievements of the winners of these awards, we can inspire other employers everywhere to follow their lead and give workers’ health, safety and wellbeing the priority it rightly deserves.

“The long list of winners of the International Safety Awards, demonstrates that a significant number of companies recognise that effective management of health and safety risks is a business growth enabler, benefiting not just employees, but organisations and wider society.

“Our sincere congratulations to Portakabin and its Manufacturing facility in York. All of those working at Portakabin should be enormously proud of their achievement.”

Greg Wood, Head of Manufacturing at Portakabin commented: “Achieving a Merit in the British Safety Council International Safety Award demonstrates that our organisation is committed to maintaining high standards of health, safety, and wellbeing. This achievement provides assurance to our employees, customers, and stakeholders that safety remains the primary focus within our business and that we are continually striving for improvement.

“Over the last few years, we have worked extremely hard to create a positive safety culture where people feel confident to challenge or be challenged when things do not feel right. This has helped lead to a 61% reduction in accidents, and the creation of an environment where we continually endeavour to ensure our people go home safe and well".
