  1. Requirements

    A school in Sandymount County Dublin was undergoing extensive renovations and needed temporary accommodation of a decant facility to support students, while works were being carried out to its main school building. To minimise disruption, temporary school buildings needed to be in place before the 2025 academic year. Contractors BAM sought after a partner who could provide high-quality, temporary accommodation that met strict deadlines while addressing the diverse needs of students, including those requiring specialised support.

  2. Solution

    Along with BAM, Portakabin successfully delivered and installed a large temporary modular building in just 10-weeks, providing a high-quality learning space for approximately 500 students and teachers. Each modular classroom was designed to be both functional and inclusive, ensuring that all facilities currently in the main school building, were replicated to ensure a smooth transition.

    The project scope covered all aspects of delivery of the modular classrooms from initial design through to the final installation and compliance checks. Emergency lighting was installed to ensure safety, while air conditioning throughout created comfortable learning environments for year-round use.

    Safety and security of the modular buildings were addressed with the installation of fire alarms, intruder alarms, and access control systems placed at key areas. IT connections were fully integrated to enable seamless digital learning and teaching.

    Specialist features of the modular classrooms such as dimmable lighting, tailored fire alarms and access control systems added further inclusivity, creating adaptable environments that met both regulatory requirements and the practical needs of students and staff. This in return ensured a comfortable learning space, whilst renovations on the main school building were on-going.
