We recognise that the talent of our people is the foundation of our success, that’s why we are dedicated to developing your skills throughout your career. You will receive a range of opportunities that will enable you to continue to learn, develop and progress.

Support from day one

There’s support from day one, to ensure you feel welcomed and part of the Portakabin family. As part of your induction programme you will be invited to a one-day ‘Welcome’ at our head office in York where you will learn about our vision for the future, our values and different areas of the business. You will also get the opportunity to network with colleagues from across Portakabin, all of which will enable you to achieve your full potential.

  1. Developing you

All areas of our business work together to identify, develop and evaluate appropriate learning and development opportunities for employees. This ensures everyone is well equipped to perform their roles effectively, safely and to a high standard – and to progress their careers

Throughout your career your manager will work with you to identify potential opportunities for you to continue to learn and develop, however you will be encouraged to drive your own personal development.

  2. You will have access to a range of development opportunities including:

    • Regular candid career conversations with your line manager
    • An individual development plan
    • Face to face training to enhance your skills
    • Digital learning courses
    • Leadership and management development programmes
    • Access to professional development

You’ll have every opportunity to grow and fulfil your potential with us, we know the better you are, the better Portakabin will be.

In fact, each year, approximately one third of our roles are filled by internal applicants – something which we’re really proud of.

  3. Apprenticeship and graduate schemes

Join us as an apprentice or graduate and you can look forward to an interesting, challenging and rewarding learning experience.

Our apprenticeship programmes combine workplace experience and training in real value-adding roles. Our programmes include traditional trade apprenticeships (electricians, joinery, plumbing, etc.) as well as sectors including Commercial, Project Management, Finance, Human Resources and Engineering. As an apprentice you will have a dedicated learning programme and a mentor to support and guide you throughout the duration of your apprenticeship.

  4. Focusing on your future

Graduates will have a tailored training programme, mentorship, fantastic support and structured placements across our business which include Commercial, Projects and Operational placements. You’ll get the opportunity to work on key projects which will impact on our future and support our customers who rely on us to meet their unique requirements.

Our apprenticeship and graduate schemes are advertised annually.

My career with Portakabin began over a decade ago on their graduate scheme and I am lucky to have been able to experience a number of roles in that time as I have progressed through the company. I am currently a Business Development Manager, specialising in the health sector. I love my job as I have responsibility for developing business and driving strategy and it’s great to see our buildings genuinely making a difference.

Vicky Phillips, Business Development Manager

As a skilled manager with over 32 years of experience within the Portakabin Group I have been given many opportunities all through my career. These opportunities have helped me to gain the role of Operations Support Manager Hire England and Wales. From starting as an apprentice plumber I have held nine different positions for various parts of the business and been supported with training where required and had access to business lead mentors for advice and guidance at every stage.
