The requirements
Downing is a leading property developer based in the North West, with a background in developments for the education sector. When they were struggling to find a provider who could deliver site accommodation to a particularly small and inaccessible site, a creative solution was required.

The Solution
A Portakabin (Site Accommodation) consultant went to the site and spent some time working out the most suitable way to install the buildings to provide accommodation fulfilling Downing’s needs. Although Portakabin (Site Accommodation) used their standard cabins, it was their flexibility that enabled this project to work – the combination of units used and the way that they were connected in a bespoke design.
Portakabin (Site Accommodation) created the office and welfare facilities using four 24-foot buildings, four 20-foot buildings and two toilet blocks. Two lines of buildings were stacked with a central gantry. The restricted site access meant particular attention to detail was required in arranging the delivery and installation of the buildings. Plans and designs were made in close consultation with the hauliers who confirmed their suitability prior to install, thereby ensuring each building was placed in the correct sequence. The 20-foot buildings were installed by crane, and then a crane was also used to position the 24-foot buildings, with sufficient reach to double-stack them.
The team was always punctual and all work was carried out in a safe and productive manner, resulting in no real issues. We’re now going to roll this out over a couple of other jobs and we’re already using Portakabin Site Accommodation again at another site.
