Introducing…. Barry Duffin

Barry is Regional Hire Manager for Portakabin, operating out of their Donabate office in Dublin. He is Commercial Lead on the company’s new Alta product range in Ireland. Barry is a graduate in architectural technology and management, with an advanced diploma in project management. He worked as a property and development manager in the housing sector and a Project Manager/Engineer for one of Ireland’s largest fast-food chains. He has been part of the team at Portakabin for six years.

We spoke to him about his role and what he sees driving customer demand and markets across Ireland.

Trust in quality

There is no doubting the market leadership of Portakabin here. Customers trust the brand and the quality of the buildings speak for themselves. They also value the peace of mind our service agreement brings.

People as well as product

It’s as much about the people as the product. Our lead times are unrivalled; customers know we can deliver and our staff have become trusted advisors. We have a great team. For many of the managers we work with, they become the project’s construction management team.

We have a saying here in Ireland “first up, best dressed” and for us that means not only getting in front of customers first, but also with the best products and best people.

Market drivers

We recently delivered a £1.2 million project for a major pharmaceuticals client in just ten weeks from contract signing to completion and another even more substantial project is in the pipeline. Pharma is one of Ireland’s biggest exports and we’re receiving a large number of enquiries from the sector as they expand their facilities and build new plants.

We also work extensively with the Department of Education on new schools and school expansions and with architects and specifiers on a wide range of projects.

Alta product

I’m responsible for large modular contracts across Ireland and our Alta range is proving to be incredibly popular. I’m really excited about the opportunities here. It’s a brilliant building system; aesthetically pleasing, but also compliant with all building regulations, including stringent thermal specifications. Architects welcome the flexibility – it can assume most shapes and adapt to very precise briefs. I don’t believe there is a product in the Irish market that can compete with it.

And finally…

I’m an avid golfer, so that takes up a lot of my spare time, as well as playing and listening to music. My wife and I enjoy hikes at the weekend and have completed some of the highest peaks in Ireland together.
