Portakabin is ensuring construction workers are given the best possible facilities during the development of Dublin’s Docklands in the heart of the city.
With around 200 workers on site at any given time during construction, main contractor Sisk wanted to offer all workers the best possible welfare facilities during the development, a multi-million Euro project which will see Ireland’s tallest building constructed.
Portakabin installed 27 modules in an innovative new triple stack formation for Sisk, providing 450m2 of office space. Craning in beside the bustling River Liffey and alongside one of the city’s major artery roads, Portakabin displayed its long running logistical expertise with minimal impact on the live site and surrounding environment.
We custom-designed a triple-stack structure of our site accommodation product, which we have never done before; putting modules together like this meant that space was optimised on the busy construction site. Despite designing and testing something completely new to us, we were able to deliver and install the buildings just two months after initial talks with Sisk. The development on the docks is vital to the Irish economy. This project shows real growth in the sector: Portakabin is so proud to be a part of that.
The 4.8-acre site in the busy city centre will accommodate plaza and park space, grade A offices, commercial space and luxury apartments; all due for completion in 2018. With a value of €230 million, the site is one of the biggest commercial developments in recent years and will be the site of the tallest building in Ireland, 100 Capital Dock, once complete.
With around 90,000 man-hours per month on the river-adjacent site, the welfare and safety of workers on site was top priority for Sisk once they were appointed to the project by property developer Kennedy Wilson.
Portakabin understood the importance of health and safety as well as the quality and aesthetic of products on the docklands site. The company’s range of construction solutions meant that we were able meet all contractor and subcontractor office requirements without taking up valuable space.
